Founding Wu'Shu in Iran
Wu'shu has been founded in Iran by Grand master Hossein Davoodi panah (Dadashi).
He was born in 1319 shamsi ( 1941 ) in Iran-Zanjan. He started his athletic career from 1334(1956) in wrestling and began to practice in various sports as gymnastic, boxing, WWR and karate and kung Fu. From 1354(1976) he started teaching kung Fu Toa in Tehran-university, and about 700 pupils were learning martial arts in his presence. At these days master meets a Chinese student who gives precious information about Chinese Kung Fu (Wu' Shu ) to him.
The master, intensively, begins to wide study on Wu' Shu and via that very Chinese friend, gets familiar to first and second secretary of China embassy in Iran and gets various documents and movies on Wu Shu from them.
Master Dadashi were in the position of the chief- inspector of country's meat organization then he being appointed to position of head of corporal cultivation of meat organization. Then as first step, via establishing Molla-Sadra club, triggering the class of Thai Chi Chu An Wu' Shu.
After vast follow up in 1366(1988) after holding an ceremony in presence of delegation of corporal cultivation organization of Tehran, and in the presence of agents from two martial arts community, for the first time in the country, permission for activity in martial arts field (Thai Chi Chu An) and self-defense, under coaching Master Hossein Davoodi-Panah issues by head office of corporal cultivation of Tehran.
At this year, master establishes the Iran's community of Thai Chi Chu An and self-defense to organize this sport activities. Because of continuous following up by master, corporal cultivation organization, corresponding with China embassy and requests more comprehensive information on Thai Chi Chu An Wu' Shu. Via performing Thai Chi Chu An on the stage and in the presence of scientific delegation of college of corporal cultivation and sportive sciences, and in the presence of professors of college of teacher education in 1368 (1990), received their scientific confirmation, hence another effective step done toward great aim of establishing Wu' SHU in Iran. At this year master requests to cultural-educational vice-chancellor of corporal cultivation organization to develop Wu' Shu activity in whole country, and inaugurates several classes in Tehran. In 1369 (1991) in weight- lifting saloon of Azadi compound, holding an attractive ceremony including Thai Chi Chu An Wu' Shu performance in the presence of head of corporal cultivation organization and some statesmen and army senior officers, which national TV of Islamic Republic of Iran broadcasts it for the first time. At this very year the community of Thai Chi Chu An and self-defense goes under supervision of cultural-educational vice-chancellor of corporal cultivation organization (office of Jehad related to mentioned organization), and responsibility of the community consign to master Hossein Davoodi-Panah and Wu' Shu' activity permission in whole country issues. In 1370 (1992) activity permission was issued in this field for women. Continuous following up by Master and correspondence with corporal cultivation organization and national committee of Olympic caused membership of the community of Thai Chi Chu An & self-defense in the international federation of Wu' Shu (IWF). In 1370 (1992) Iran's first championship competitions holds by Master's efforts and 68 athletes participate in. performing presentative ceremony of Wu' Shu' different styles (as; Nan Chu An, Chang Chu An, Thai Chi Chu An, Di Teng Chu An, group fighting, breaking hard objects, Iranian stroke called Iran Chu An, and wood and sword kata) in the presence of official delegation of China' sport ministry and federations affaires and technical vice-chancellor of corporal cultivation organization, surprised Chinese delegation and they expressed their gladness of promoting of China's traditional sport in Iran, and invited Iran's Wu' Shu team to participate in international competitions. In 1370 (1992) third grade coaching course was hold for the first time. By the continuous efforts of Master, the community of Thai Chi Chu An & Self-defense which was changed to community of Wu' Shu Thai Chi Chu An, goes under the membership of Wu' Shu federation of Asia (WFA) in 1371 (1993). At this year by the invitation of international great festival of Shanghai' Wu' Shu, and after coordination and confirmation of corporal cultivation organization and National Olympic Committee, first Wu Shu national team of Iran including master Hossein Davoodi-Panah (Dadashi) and his student; Mr. Shahin Nik-Nejad, were dispatched to this festival, and due to first presence of Iran' national team, Master Dadashi was honored to get gold medal in performance of Thai Chi Chu An standard form and Mr. Nik-Nejad achieved to silver medal in performance of traditional form.
Due to decision of corporal cultivation organization in 1371 (1993) Chinese sports committee was established in the domain of adjutancy of technical and federation affaires, and covers three martial arts community (Wu'Shu – Kung Fu – Razm Avaran). Master Dadashi takes responsibility of Wu'Shu community and technical committee of Wu'Shu. Corporal cultivation organization appreciated the master because of his activities on developing Wu' Shu in country, and awarded him, the only and the first decree of Wu' Shu' proficiency teacher. In 1372 (1994) second Wu' Shu state championship competition was held by Chinese sports committee and under responsibility of master Dadashi and some Wu' Shu pioneers. With favorable regard of organization, in 1372 (1994) Chinese sports committee changed to Chinese martial arts federation and master Dadashi was appointed to head of technical committee of federation. At this year first group of Wu Shu referees were dispatched to referees training seminar in Malaysia, and following that, Iran's Wu Shu national team participated in the second Wu Shu world championship.
Iran's team achieved several ranks as eleventh to seventeenth in standard forms performance and several A and B ranks in traditional forms performance. These activities continued due to sending national Wu Shu teams to various competitions and tournaments such as; Asian competitions 1996 Philippine, world competition 1997 Italy, and achieving third rank in fighting (San Shoo) and sixth rank team, Turkey Wu Shu Tournament 1998, Bangkok Asian competitions 1998, and …. , in 1383 (2005) by founding "Wu' Shu Federation of Islamic Republic of Iran", deep-seated wish of master and Wu' Shu devotees, realizes and Wu' Shu finds its place in Iran.
In 2009 the Taijiquan team of Iran took part in the International taijiquan competition in Hong Kong and obtained the first place by winning 17 medals(7 Gold, 4 Silver, and 6 Bronze) and 3 Valuable cups. Master Dadashi won 2 gold medals in this competition.
Nondescript talent of Iranian youth in martial arts led to achieving Asian and world colorful medals in Wu' Shu and today Wu' Shu has known as a medal-bringing sport.
At the present time, various styles of Wu' Shu are being thought in Iran, and Iran is a main claimant of Wu' Shu in the world.
